Angel Reese Makes WNBA History With 26 Rebounds Against the Sparks

Angel Reese delivered a historic rebounding performance Monday night, setting two WNBA records in the Atlanta Dream’s 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. Reese grabbed 26 rebounds, breaking the league’s single-game record while also setting a new mark for rebounds in a season.

Reese passed Chamique Holdsclaw’s previous WNBA record of 24 rebounds, set on May 23, 2003, while playing for Washington. Her 26-rebound effort also pushed her season total to 458, moving her seven rebounds ahead of A’ja Wilson’s previous single-season record of 451, established in 2024.

Despite struggling with her shooting, Reese stayed focused on helping Atlanta in other areas. She explained during the postgame show, “Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit (anything) so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side.”

Reese added that her priority was contributing wherever the Dream needed her, saying, “I just want to be there for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win.”

Another Double-Double

Reese finished with 11 points and 26 rebounds, securing her WNBA-leading 27th double-double of the season. She reached the mark with a basket with 13.9 seconds remaining.

Dream guard Allisha Gray praised Reese’s work on the glass, saying, “That’s a talent. I’m just in awe watching her rebound.”

The three-time WNBA All-Star continues to build a strong statistical resume. As a rookie with Chicago in 2024, Reese averaged 13.1 rebounds per game, a rookie record, and recorded 15 consecutive double-doubles, an all-time WNBA mark. She led the league in rebounding during her first two seasons and entered this season leading again at 12.0 rebounds per game.

Reese’s performance against the Sparks added two major milestones to an already impressive WNBA career. Her 26 rebounds rewrote the single-game record and gave her the league’s new single-season rebounding mark, highlighting her consistent impact on the boards.
