Why the Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Zambidis Fight Was Postponed
Fans expecting to see Floyd Mayweather return to the ring this weekend received unexpected news after his scheduled exhibition fight against Mike Zambidis was postponed only two days before the event.
The bout was set to take place in Athens, Greece, marking Mayweather’s first exhibition appearance in nearly two years. However, an ongoing legal dispute forced organizers to halt the event, leaving the future of the matchup uncertain.
The planned exhibition between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Zambidis was canceled because of a lawsuit involving production company CSI Sports. According to the legal claim, the exhibition violated an existing agreement between Mayweather and CSI Sports related to future exhibition fights against Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather’s legal team addressed the issue in a letter released on Thursday. The letter stated that the lawsuit had “effectively stopped any promotion and distribution plans” and had also “halted ticket sales.” As a result, organizers decided to postpone the Athens event while waiting for the court to reach a decision.
At this stage, no ruling has been issued. Because of that, the possibility of rescheduling the fight remains open if the legal matter is resolved.
What Comes Next for Floyd Mayweather?

Instagram | @boxingdailycom | Legal disputes have delayed Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s exhibition fight with Mike Zambidis, putting the event on hold.
The exhibition fight against Mike Zambidis could still take place, but no new date has been announced. The court must first decide the ongoing legal case. After that, both sides can decide whether to reschedule the event.
Mayweather also has agreements for two more exhibition fights. The proposed bout against Mike Tyson was first planned for this spring. It now has a tentative date of September 26. His exhibition rematch with Manny Pacquiao is currently expected in January 2027. Mayweather’s legal team recently shared those dates during court proceedings.
Neither fight has been officially confirmed. As a result, the schedule could change again.
Floyd Mayweather last fought in an exhibition against John Gotti III in August 2024. Fans have been waiting for his return since then. The fight with Mike Zambidis was set to end that wait. However, the legal dispute forced organizers to postpone the event.
At present, Mayweather’s exhibition schedule remains unclear. The court’s decision will determine the next step. It could lead to a rescheduled fight with Mike Zambidis. If not, the proposed exhibition against Mike Tyson may become his next appearance later this year.
