Here’s How the World is Clapping Back at President Trump’s ‘Mindless’ Tariffs
Trump’s tariffs are sparking a worldwide firestorm. On April 2, President Trump announced sweeping tariffs on nearly every country – including allies. These “reciprocal” tariffs range from 10% to a whopping 50%, depending on how the U.S. sees its trade relationship with each nation.
He delayed the announcement by one day to avoid sounding like a joke. But nobody’s laughing. The global response? Loud, angry, and already in motion.
Brazil Isn’t Sitting Still
Brazil got hit with a 10% tariff. Not huge, but enough to fire up the government. They quickly passed a new law allowing them to hit back with tariffs of their own. Brazil says Trump’s tariffs break World Trade Organization rules and could hurt every Brazilian product sent to the U.S.

Euro News / Brazil says if the U.S. wants to play hardball, it is ready to return the favor.
They are now looking at every possible option – including taking the fight to the WTO.
Cambodia is Bracing, Not Breaking
Cambodia is facing one of the highest rates – 49%. Still, the country’s labor minister says they will manage. They believe it is not a personal attack but part of a larger crackdown on Asian exports.
They are staying calm for now. But officials admit that if other countries see their tariffs drop and Cambodia stays high, things could get rough by 2027.
China is Fighting Fire With Fire
Trump’s tariffs slapped a 34% charge on top of the 20% already placed on Chinese imports. China calls it bullying and says it is ready to strike back. Officials say the move breaks global trade rules and pushes everyone closer to a full-blown trade war.
China wants the U.S. to reverse the tariffs and return to real negotiations. But they are not waiting. China is preparing its own countermeasures to defend its markets and reputation.
Australia Feels Betrayed
Australia’s Prime Minister says Trump’s tariffs don’t make sense. And they are not something an ally would do. The U.S. and Australia have long been close partners, but this decision is shaking that bond.
Still, Australia says it won’t return fire just yet. They are taking a wait-and-see approach, hoping things cool off. But the frustration is clear.
Colombia Sees Opportunity and Danger
Colombia’s President says Trump’s tariffs mark the end of free trade as we know it. He warns it might backfire on the U.S., but also sees a silver lining. With U.S. prices rising, Colombian goods might become more attractive.
He is not rushing to retaliate. Instead, he is urging local companies to grab the chance to export more to the U.S. He says Colombia will only strike back if American imports start killing jobs.
Europe’s Gearing Up for a Fight
The European Union is furious. It is already been hit with a 25% steel tariff and now faces another 20% hike. The EU says Trump’s tariffs are a direct threat to the global economy.

Eca / The EU is preparing new countermeasures. Europe says it still wants to talk. But it is ready to act.
Their message: protect our businesses or expect payback.
Fiji Says the Math Doesn’t Add Up
Fiji’s reaction? Confused and angry. The U.S. claims Fiji puts a 63% tariff on American goods. Fiji’s deputy prime minister says that is just not true. Almost all U.S. imports come in duty-free or face a tiny 5% tax.
So, why the 32% tariff from Trump? Fiji says it is unfair and makes no economic sense. They Are asking for facts and fairness. So far, they have gotten neither.
France Can’t Believe it!
A French government spokesperson said Trump is acting like he runs the world. They believe the only way to deal with this is through joint action with the EU.
France wants a unified response. They are pushing for hard countermeasures starting this month.
