The Real Essence Of World Food Day 2022: Feeding The Poor
Hunger is by far the most dangerous humanitarian crisis today. In 2022, there is a long list of countries that are unable to provide adequate food to their netizens. Be it in Sri Lanka and India or European countries, people are dying of hunger. Of course, it is the most unfortunate crisis of all time, and according to the World Health Organization, the food crisis will be the biggest in 2022—yet few countries are taking it seriously. The report from WHO suggests that hunger was never as big an issue as it is today – in the post-pandemic world. Essentially, the COVID-19 pandemic made the lives of everyone vulnerable. They lost their loved ones and their jobs. Thus, people across the globe still struggle with making ends meet. To make the matter worse, there is this looming recession ahead of us. In such a scenario, ignoring the food crisis is not an option. And this is what this year’s World Food Day (October 16, 2022) is all about.
On the “auspicious day” of World Food Day (October 16, 2022,) the World Health Organization (WHO) released a detailed report. In the report, WHO outlined countries that are vulnerable to the food crisis.

Countries that are Vulnerable to Food Crises in 2022
Here are some countries that are vulnerable to the food crisis in 2022 – according to WHO:
- Sri Lanka
- The Philippines
- Afghanistan
- Indonesia
- South Africa
- Middle East
- South Asia
- Some Poor European Countries
However, it is essential to note here that mass hunger (AKA food crisis) exists everywhere in the world. But these countries are most vulnerable to it. That is why WHO urges these countries to take “stubborn actions” to combat the crisis.
With that said, here is the real essence of World Food Day 2022:
-
Addressing Food Crises in Sri Lanka
As mentioned earlier, Sri Lank is plunged into an economic crisis. The country is suffering from an unprecedented economic crisis. Thus, the food crisis is apparently the consequence. A CNN report suggests that 2.5 million people in Sri Lanka are vulnerable to food crises.
Nonetheless, it is essential to note here that half of the Sri Lankan population is struggling to make ends meet. Addressing it in relevant international platforms is the crying need of the need – especially on this year’s World Food Day.
-
Countering Mass Hunger In Afghanistan
Under the patriarchy of the Taliban, Afghanistan is yet another country that suffers an undeniable food crisis. According to reports, more than 1 million Afghans have fled the country.
Why is that so, one may ask? Well, they have no proper food there. The government has made the lives of local Afghans vulnerable to food crises. Fleeing such a country is bound to happen.
So, if you are looking to make the most out of this year’s World Food Day, address the food crisis in Afghanistan.
