Iowa State Exploring Position Switch for 2027 QB Blake Moser

Iowa State football carried strong momentum out of its first official visit weekend, adding three more commitments to the 2027 recruiting class. Drew Aagesen, Jordan Crider, and Jason Wooden each committed to the Cyclones, pushing the class total to 10 players as the program continues building depth for the future.

One name quickly gaining attention is Blake Moser, a standout athlete from Lake Stevens High School. The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect arrived at Iowa State’s recent prospect camp as a quarterback for the Lake Stevens Vikings.

By the end of the event, the conversation around his future had shifted in a surprising direction.

Iowa State Tests Moser at Receiver

Instead of evaluating Moser behind center, head coach Jimmy Rogers had him work at wide receiver during camp drills. The switch paid off almost immediately. Moser impressed coaches with his route work, speed, and overall athletic ability, eventually earning a scholarship offer from the Cyclones.

His performance became even more notable after recording a 4.37-second 40-yard dash, a time that instantly stood out among camp participants.

“They offered me to play receiver, so I was doing receiver stuff at camp, and then they offered me after the camp,” Moser said through Bill Seals of Cyclone Report. “I talked to Coach Sherman, the receivers coach, for a while and then ended up meeting with Coach Rogers, and he gave me the offer. We talked a little more after that, and it was great.”

Strong Numbers Add to Interest

Moser’s junior-season production shows why multiple programs have tracked him as a quarterback. He completed 155 of 233 passes for 2,612 yards while throwing 39 touchdowns against only six interceptions.

His mobility also created problems for opposing defenses. Moser added 850 rushing yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns, proving effective both inside and outside the pocket.

Before Iowa State entered the picture, Moser had received quarterback offers from Portland State, Idaho, Montana, and Northern Arizona. The Cyclones now appear ready to explore a different path, viewing his speed and athletic profile as a possible fit at receiver.

The move reflects Iowa State’s willingness to identify versatile athletes and project them into new roles. With recruiting activity expected to remain active over the coming weeks, Moser’s developing connection with the Cyclones has become one of the more interesting storylines in the program’s 2027 class.
